Blue Ball (Wharncliffe Side)

Blue BallJust been for a lunchtime meal with my mum and her brothers and sisters. They're all in their 80s. The food wasn't too quick to arrive (as it was obviously cooked to order) but it was worth waiting for. They have clearly addressed the negative comments from earlier this year. Service was good. The waitress was obviously new to the job but made a good job of it, checking everything was OK, did we need anything else etc...

Prices are fair. 2 lunchtime meals for £15 and they're definitely good value at that. The "full price" mains are comparable with other pubs.

Good pub, good food, nice atmosphere.

Don Valley Hotel (Attercliffe)

Don Valley HotelFantastic place, always a warm welcome.

Food is great, beer and spirits spot on, live sports on large screens so many of them.

Cheap pool table and beer garden at the back. What more could you want?

Bradfield Plough (Low Bradfield)

Bradfield PloughWe are visitors from Australia. We walked in for a lunch last Saturday after a walk around the beautiful little village of Low Bradfield. The interior fit out (which seems new?) is so welcoming and cozy but also really classy. Staff were all super attentive and helpful and the food (2 x steak sandwich specials, 1 x lasagna) was delicious and came in enormous servings. Absolutely loved this place and would go back for a Sunday roast lunch if I could!

Crosspool Tavern (Crosspool)

Crosspool TavernDespite being a personal trainer I am partial to pizza and trust me when I say I can eat pizza for England. Now I remembered that the Crosspool Tavern does half price pizzas on Tuesday so I thought I'd try it, especially given that I have previously had their wonderful burgers previously.

Now let me tell you what I love about the Crosspool Tavern. There is loads of parking available. The staff are very friendly. There is a very friendly atmosphere, always with a great crowd in.

It's obvious that the base was not some supermarket base. The chef has clearly made it freshly on the day. That tomato topping has not come from a packet. The chef has clearly got some fresh tomatoes and made the topping on the spot. Those onions were as crisp as the day is long. The mushrooms had that just cut and cooked taste. One thing is obvious - they've got those ingredients from the greengrocers across the road. Although I paid for this pizza it was just like your mother's home cooking. One thing I've notice when I go in for lunch is the large number of families who go in which is always good to see. What's not to like?

So the usual questions.

Was it worth the money? Good value at 10 times the price.

Would I go there again? In a heartbeat.

Would I recommend them to the public? Of course.

What would I say to the public? If you live in the catchment area of the Crosspool Tavern and you fancy a takeaway pizza then I would suggest you make your way down there. Forget takeaway pizza. Order the pizza and eat it there. You'll get a first class pizza at less than half the price of a takeaway. You can eat it on the spot. There is no washing up to do. You'll be in a very friendly relaxed environment. When the football is on TV get yourself down there and enjoy a world class pizza.

The other thing I'd strongly recommend you do is try the all you can eat breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 11am.

Yellow Lion (Aston)

Yellow LionWent to the Yellow Lion last night for a family meal. Absolutely brilliant. Staff was so helpful and the food was gorgeous. Very good priced, too. Will be visiting this pub again very soon.

All the children enjoyed it to in the play area.

Thank you.

Ball Inn (Crookes)

Ball InnI've previously done reviews on the amazing food at the Ball Inn.

Today I went in for a vegetarian big breakfast. It's a meal fit for a king.

That's not why I'm doing today's review today. I saw three incidents that really are heartwarming. The food in the Ball Inn is absolutely magnificent, it's very welcoming, there's a great atmosphere in the place and there's always a fantastic crowd in.

As I was eating my food, I noticed two groups of three young women.

In each group, there were three generations of the same family grandmother, mother and granddaughter. That tells me that this is a family friendly pub which is welcoming to all.

However, on my way out, I noticed that there was a lady in a wheelchair eating with her family and I noticed a very kind member of staff giving every assistance to this person.

This tells me that this is a very family friendly pub that is welcoming to all.

I would suggest you don't take my word for it. I would suggest you get all your family together and come down for a pub lunch. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Like me in the true James Bond fashion, you'll be shaken but not stirred.

Bradfield Plough (Low Bradfield)

Bradfield PloughFirst time been in four months - very disappointed. Prices do not reflect on the quality and portion size. Very average pub food.

Ordered the lasagna for 16 pounds - very small portion which came with six scrappy chips, rock hard flat bread, and a tablespoon of coleslaw. I have always complimented the food at the Plough but would never return.

Ordered the seal pie lunch time menu at eight pounds for my mum and it was barely a kids portion.

What a shame that this pub's food quality has decreased and the prices increased. Came away very disappointed and a rating of barely one star.
