The Royal Oak pub is located at 31 Manchester Road in Deepcar.
The Royal Oak pub in Deepcar has closed permanently, its current tenants have announced.
The pub, which local historians say dates back to the 1830s, had a history stretching back nearly 200 years. It had previously been shut for three years and only reopened in 2023 after failing to resume trading following the Covid pandemic and lockdowns.
The closure was confirmed in a message posted on the pub's Facebook page. The tenants wrote: "With a heavy heart, we announce that The Royal Oak is now permanently closed. Thank you for standing by us, supporting our journey, and being part of our story. It has been an absolute honour serving you all."
Before reopening in 2023, the Royal Oak underwent a major refurbishment. The work included new seating and furniture, new carpets, television screens, a pool table and a hi-tech jukebox. The bar also offered eight different beers.
When the pub reopened, bosses said it was packed on the first night, with people coming in to see the venue for the first time in years.
Despite that strong initial return, the tenants have now confirmed the pub will not reopen again, bringing an end to the long-running Deepcar venue.
Roger
Having recently visited the Royal Oak I found the landlord/lady to be friendly and tried one of their meals, which I thoroughly enjoyed (can't be beaten for £2.50). Had a cup of tea with my meal and then a pint of their real ale, which went down well.
Would definitely recommend it and will be returning without my motor bike so I can stay longer.
