Meadow Farm pub on Nether Lane in Ecclesfield has introduced a new parking management system, installing cameras to deter non-customers from using the site. The car park is now monitored by Britannia Parking Group, which issues £100 penalty letters to drivers who fail to comply with the rules.
Customers arriving by car are required to enter their vehicle registration details into a tablet located in the pub's reception. The venue's operator has confirmed that parking will remain free of charge for genuine guests.
A spokesperson for the pub explained that the cameras were installed because the car park was occasionally being used by people not visiting the venue. This reduced space availability for paying customers. The spokesperson stated that the new system is intended to ensure guests can easily find a parking spot close to the building.
The system has prompted questions from motorists regarding the grace period for those who enter the car park but decide not to stay, or for drivers who are simply picking up passengers. There are concerns over how long a vehicle can remain on the site before a £100 letter is automatically generated.
Additionally, the tablet in the reception does not issue a receipt or provide digital proof when a customer registers their vehicle. This leaves drivers without immediate evidence to challenge a penalty if the system fails to record their details correctly.
Greene King, the company that owns Meadow Farm, has previously advised customers to retain their food and drink receipts as proof of their visit. The company also stated that genuine guests who mistakenly receive a parking charge notice can reach out to its customer relations team to resolve the issue.
This latest installation makes Meadow Farm the third Greene King-owned pub in the Sheffield area to introduce parking cameras this week, following the introduction of similar systems at The Fox House at Longshaw and the Belfry at Beighton.
