The Big Gun Hotel in the Wicker narrowly escaped being destroyed by fire last week when a passing bus driver spotted smoke and raised the alarm.
The driver saw smoke coming from the first floor window of the well-known pub and dialled 999 to alert firefighters. Fire crews from 5 stations attended the scene, as drinkers were evacuated from the bar.
The cause of the fire, which started in the living quarters of the pub, is under investigation but is not thought to be suspicious.
