Don't bother. Waited 8 minutes to get served. Nobody serving at bar, then a workman came in and she jumped up to serve him. Then she said "wait a minute", as she was on her phone flirting with about 6 builders. Service a big zero, so walked down to Hillsborough corner and had meals and drinks. £45 spent.
Just had a meal at the Sportsman Inn, S10. Really was one of the worst meals I have had.
Made a selection from both the main menu and the specials for four people and considering the price difference there really was no difference in the quality of the food. All our four meals were bland and tasteless.
I don't normally write any reviews but was really disappointed with this food. The coffee was missed at the end of the meals even though these were included, but to be honest we just paid the bill and left.
I could have cooked and presented food better myself with one hand tied behind my back... will not be going back and stick to our normal lunches at S11.
This pub used to have fabulous food, what a shame.
Outdated reviews. It's now the place to be in Hillsborough. Great beer place, really clean, the landlord is great and the bouncers are good people. Not seen any trouble over the past few months that I've been in.
Second time that I have had to complain. The first time my lasagna was cold. Been again today and ordered fish and chips, which was just thick, burnt batter with no fish inside. Makes me feel I am never satisfied. I know it's cheap but it does not need to be uneatable. Cannot fault the staff, they changed it, and it was then perfect. Does it mean you have to complain to get good food in these fast food places? Makes me not want to go anymore.
So me and my colleagues have been going into The Howard regularly after work for around 3 months now. We enjoy the vibe, the beer and the location of the pub.
Sadly tonight, Monday 10/04/2017 when we entered the pub the manager seemed in the foulest of moods. I stood at the bar patiently, ready to order my first pint of Thor's Choice, a belter of a beer. The pint was poured to perfection, I reached for my pocket and the barmaid pointed out that the card machines were out of service. I explained I had no cash to hand. "Then withdraw some or you're barred!" exclaimed the manager, rudely, as he escorted me outside in a threatening manner.
I asked him to calm down and explained that I would go and get the money from the nearest cashpoint. I then mentioned that "in future, the staff should notify customers beforehand to avoid this kind of thing happening all night." Enough was enough for the manager and he decided to bar me for life.
Frankly I've never been treated so rudely by someone in the hospitality industry, and I would really re-consider my approach towards regular customers.
So here I am, much more sober than I'd like to be, home early writing with deep regret of my experience here this evening. A conversation with the bar maid on shift tonight would confirm all the details above as the truth.
Your customers, especially the regulars, deserve better treatment. For a man his age, his behaviour was totally unacceptable.
We booked this pub for a 60th birthday party. Paid in full and were told kids were welcome as long as they didn't run about etc...
24 hours before we were informed that they had double booked. After waiting for hours about what they were going to do about it we got told that we could have upstairs room instead of downstairs, but kids could only go till 8PM. We had our DJ go down to see where they could set up etc... where they wrote in the bookings a while before the party so now have had to cancel the DJ and find another venue.
I am really disgusted that they could do this and I would strongly advise anyone against booking a party with these, as we booked months before and was let down just hours before. An inconvenience for loads of people and it's disgusting.
