I visited this pub a few months ago, having heard about a live (join in if you want!) music session on a Tuesday evening. I found it to be a little gem of a local pub. Depending on what you want from a pub? This has genuine locals with no airs and graces, good beer at a price that seems from a bygone age, topped off with a landlord that knows how to run a pub due to having been doing it well for many years.
I have now been back several times and the music has a very welcoming group and enjoyable music.
Must go back soon and collect my umbrella, which I left last time I was in (I blame Samuel Smith for this!).
Okay to start with, but after spending £50 on a Monday evening, being declined a packet of peanuts at 11:20pm is not very good because bar staff was ignorant. We will not be going back again because my partner was so embarrassed by this.
A good pub tainted by the revolting and shameful acts of the so-called owner, Michael Kenworthy.
My partner and her friend were just at the ladies' as our taxi arrived. As I waited by the door, Mr Kenworthy, inebriated, slammed open the door to the ladies' toilet and proceeded to make vulgar comments regarding, presumably, his own pornographic and sad fantasies.
This obviously caused shock and upset. I asked for an apology on behalf of the girls. Michael Kenworthy was not willing to apologise, failing to acknowledge how abhorrent his behaviour had been.
The other staff were lovely, the pub is nicely presented and good selection of drinks. It is truly a shame that all that was masked by the repugnancy of the owner, and his, all too apparent, lack of respect and appreciated for his punters.
