Just been here and waited 1 1/2 hours for something to eat as not served till 5PM. Did not mind, as in the past seemed friendly enough.
Just before food serving time we were asked if we would like to leave if our children could not behave. I admit Christmas lights were been put up so they were quite excited but certainly not misbehaving. On reflection I think this was due to her not wanting her lights to be spoilt. She also tried to make the excuse that someone had complained (or had not as we had been sat at the side of them).
The main thing I would say is that if you have children avoid this place, as they are obviously not welcome.
And I am sorry but I would have thought during the recession they would try and keep custom
Took a couple with us for Sunday lunch. We had booked a table, got our drinks at the bar, and asked which was our table - we were not told that we had to order our meals at the bar. After half an hour we asked if we could place our order - told to go to the bar.
Only cutlery for 2 on the table, when the meal was brought had to ask for more cutlery.
My husband had ordered lamb, underneath the lamb was a slice of pork. His religion permits him to eat anything, but imagine if he was Jewish/Muslim. My beef was awful as though they had scraped everything to make up a portion.
We were ignored by the waitress, and the owner, no one acknowledges you. My husband has run restaurants in London for 30 years and if he had treated customers like this he would have gone out of business. Avoid the Plough on a Sunday lunchtime.
This place is fantastic. The refurb is amazing and it looks great but would the food and service be as good? Oh yes! Great menu, fantastic food, value for money, friendly staff.
We went with 2 children and the staff were so helpful. The kiddies menu is great at £4.95 for a main course, drink and dessert but it is smaller versions of some of the main courses and my little boy didn't fancy the garlic sausage stew but demolished the fish and chips quickly enough!
Overall a brilliant dining out experience and we will be back soon. Even considering Christmas Day.
This appears as a nice pub and is set in a lovely place. The food is also quite nice but this is spoilt by the rudeness of the under experienced staff that have little time for customers!
My friend and I asked for a table at Sunday lunchtime and were told there was no room, but we could sit on the end of someone else's table! When I pointed out that we didn't particularly want to sit with some people we didn't know, the waitress snapped back 'well you won't actually be with them will you' she then turned and stormed off! Priceless!
