Two or four patrons can sip on a choice of drinks like Winter Mojito, Spiced Cherry Mai Tai and Rosemary Hedgerow Fizz at this rooftop bar
A very rough and ready pub that was also very friendly and welcoming - and where I was introduced to Kelham Island bitter. I was very happy to return!
- Jonathan Chamberlain,
I don't really know where to start. There was an attitude as soon as we walked into the place. The atmosphere wasn't very nice. We waited ages at the bar before being served by the woman behind the bar who didn't look like she wanted to serve anybody. It was shocking to learn later that she was the manager!
We sat down to eat. We had reserved the table for 3:30PM. No one came with any menus. After we searched the place we finally found some. When we went to order the food they had no beef or pork. When the person I was with pointed this out, we were met with a grunt and an extremely rude response.
We should have left then. But I informed my party and they changed their order. We also asked if they could prepare a slice of cheese on toast for a child. They refused, saying they didn't have a grill.
When I spoke to my friend about the attitude and rudeness of the staff, I was challenged by the woman with bad attitude. When I told her that her response wasn't in anyway good customer practice, she told the bar staff to cancel my order and told me to leave. So our party of 7 left, including two children.
Never again will I set foot in this place. Apparently she is known for her bad attitude and some of the people when we were leaving said they were not surprised.
- Julie Stewart,
What a load of drunken yobs. I will stick to the Wordsworth Tavern.
- Fran Smith,
This historic pub serves good beer and lovely food. I called in with my walking club last Sunday, when they were very busy. I accidentally left my purse on the bar, and did not realise it until the end of the walk. When I phoned them that evening, they had found the purse. As I live in Doncaster about 40 miles away, they kindly agreed to post me the £15 in notes that were in the purse; I was not bothered about the coins.
However, they have actually posted me the purse including the contents!
I am very impressed that they did that, when they are so busy.
Thank you the Strines Inn.
- Judy Gilbert,
This is a great welcoming pub. Chris and Lisa have been there for about 7 years and they are very welcoming.
They decided to have a selection of cask ales to offer last year and the quality is wonderful. Chris has done a great job of keeping them, which ensures a first-rate pint every time. They currently have a selection of 5 casks to suite all tastes but have keg beers and lagers as well if you prefer.
There doesn't seem to be another pub in the Intake area that is up to this level of quality and service. Well done Lisa and Chris.
- Russ Beeden,
Live music venue with a great friendly atmosphere, serving real ales, food and pub games.
- Mike Griffin,
Visited on 19th April 2014. Vegetables were lukewarm. Mashed potato was yellow and hard, as if it had been put under a grill to warm it up. Lamb pies tasted like mutton. Beef pie had odd taste.
- Tabatha,
Just returned from an excellent first visit to this superb pub!
We really enjoyed a friendly welcome from staff and locals before tucking into some glorious food. I also enjoyed a couple of pints of Landlord, my lovely wife opting for an extra-cold lager.
Nicely decorated and clean, this pub is a must for anyone who enjoys great food, on-form real ale and a really warm Yorkshire welcome.
- David Beresford,
While out on a long walk with the dog, popped in for a drink. Very nice staff came out with water & treats for the dog. Made us feel very welcome. Will come back.
- Jackie,
Great pub, food, service.
We were a bunch of cyclists. Beautiful views.
Highly recommended!
