First time for ages to visit here. Couldn't get on Wi-Fi. Staff totally unhelpful. Will be a very long time before we visit again.
- Dave,
I go to the Rose House regularly on Saturday nights to sing on karaoke with my brother. Charles and Dawn, the landlord and landlady, are the friendliest I've known.
The pub is ideal for people with children after shopping. They don't put up with troublemakers, have a fishing and football team, and on bonfire nights they have a good firework display. They have bingo on Tuesday nights starting at 8PM. There is only on street parking.
- Philip Winnell,
Great food every time we have been. Lovely pub and the staff very friendly.
- Sheila Dungworth,
We held the wake for my mum's funeral at The Angel Pub last week. The room allocated to us was perfect for the 40 people who came, plenty of room and seating. Lots of hot tea and coffee on arrival. The buffet was superb. Lots of choice, freshly made and the sandwiches were delicious! Lovely big fresh bread rolls - yum!
The staff were attentive and the landlady made booking the venue very easy. It was really good value for money, too. We would highly recommend this venue.
Many thanks to all the staff and management there.
- Kate Dunn,
Excellent venue. Made me feel like I was on holiday. The food was perfect. Loved the mutton, and my partner enjoyed the lamb chops. Had a rum punch cocktail. Wow! Surprised this place wasn't packed out.
Will be going often going to try all the menu.
- John Maple,
I recently made the trip to the Earl Marshall with my friends. Not a regular by any means but it always seemed a safe bet to pop into for a drink when in the area. But after my last trip I won't be returning and will be making sure to tell others not to go there either.
Upon arriving it was karaoke night and the (resident?) DJ repeatedly felt the need to go on about how he needed a "p**s" so would be back soon. Strange but not that big a deal. Upon returning, however, he felt the need to introduce his friend to the microphone as an old friend of his who "hates P***s". I literally laughed in disbelief and looked around and then at my friends in the hope that I had misheard, but sadly I had not.
We soon finished up our drinks to leave, bringing our glasses and bottles to the bar to save them the task, politely said thanks and goodbye to the barman who had been fine, and stepped out. At which point I heard someone shout "the fags have gone". I don't know what caused them to shout that. None of us are homosexual but even if we were homosexual I don’t see why that would have been an issue? Wishful thinking on their part maybe? It was obviously used in a derogatory way, as they celebrated us leaving.
I again don't know why, as we kept to ourselves, and politely made an exit. Nobody said anything to our faces as we walked past them, so I can only speculate that they were offended that non-regulars dared go drink in the same place as them. But don't worry, as it won’t be happening again.
It is sad to see such blatant racist and homophobic language is still going unchecked in 2017 and I would like to think something would be done about this, but I won't hold my breath. I work in a bar myself and wouldn't tolerate such behaviour myself, so I can only assume these thoughts reflect the same as the management.
To anyone who has read this far I can offer you the good news that all this happened on a Saturday evening (what should be a busy time) and the place was as close to empty as possible. With any luck places like this will shut down soon enough, leaving the hateful people without anywhere to say such stupid things and then the human race can advance.
At the end of the day everyone deserves respect regardless of their race, class or sexuality. What if we had been homosexual or minorities? Would you have taken our money still? We certainly would have left feeling a lot more offended and shocked than we were. If you can't show respect to paying customers then I can't imagine how these people act or think in their day-to-day life.
Earl Marshall? You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
P.S. Your tables are always sticky, so sort them out too.
- Ryan,
Going down hill fast, lost all its welcome, staff not interested. Chairs put on tables at 11:30pm, main door locked. Had to exit via a fire door. Outside lights turned off, so had to negotiate the courtyard to the car park in pitch dark.
Lots of regulars already found new "local". We'll be joining them!
- Geoff,
Good pub. Good food. Good staff. Yes... nothing fancy food wise and has that chain feel about it... but... has got what you want pub grub wise!
I had one of their salads recently, as I'm dieting, and they did good. No bread on the side to compensate, just a really good meal/salad.
My first time I went in was with my mum, and had a great meal (proper pub grub). Good value. Good service.
I went in there on my own as a single (female) to meet others and didn’t feel odd (like you do occasionally when you arrive earlier than everyone else). I will definitely be going again soon.
- Adelaide Burton,
Fantastic meals. Very good value for money and lovely, friendly staff. Will definitely call again when in the area. Thank you.
- Alison Bishop,
Used to love this venue, however since new manager has taken over, this venue has gone downhill. Manager takes great delight in being abusive to customers.
Avoid if possible - there are plenty of other venues in Sheffield who play the same music, but with no abuse.
- Claire S,
