Sheffield's branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has conducted its annual beer survey and found that the city has the highest number of cask beers available anywhere in the UK. Sheffield has already been dubbed the country's beer capital, and the new survey is further proof, says CAMRA.
Members of Sheffield & District branch of CAMRA visited more than 200 pubs across Sheffield in early October, gathering data on all of the cask beers available. They found that Sheffield has 450 different real ales on sale, across upwards of 1,200 hand pumps. The most common beer available was Bradfield Brewery's Farmer's Blonde, with Abbeydale Brewery's Moonshine coming a close second.
We have removed the Wordsworth Tavern, formerly of Wordsworth Avenue in Parson Cross, as it has closed and does not appear likely to reopen.
We have added a new listing for The Botanist bar and restaurant, located at 5a-5b Leopold Square in the city centre.
We have added a new listing for Bar & Beyond at 173-179 West Street in Sheffield city centre. This replaces the ex-Varsity bar, which had stood vacant for an extended period of time.
