Monkey Pub Reviews

Very friendly pub, excellent food cooked from scratch, children's play area, five pumps including one good real ale, Barnsley Bitter from Acorn Brewery.
Only downside is its location, marooned between two small villages, so that there are rarely more than ten people in, even on a Friday night. But this means you can usually get a sofa seat by the open fire and read the National Geographic magazines. The exception is when about 50 people turn up for the poetry evening, last Wednesday of each month.

A real gem and accidental find. Whilst out searching for launch sties for our hot air balloon, we found this lovely pub out in the sticks. It has a lovely safe children's play area at the back with plenty of outdoor seating and car parking. We were made most welcome - (even wearing walking boots).
We had the basic menu and found it was very tasty and quickly served. As a result we are well pleased with the warm welcome, and plan to return again - even with the balloon, as there is plenty of space to launch - when the weather is being kind.
We also plan to visit to have a more formal meal, as the menu looks quite interesting - there is even crocodile available - but it is best to ring in advance for this unusual dish.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Anthony, we will return, especially when it's a flyable evening.

There is always a warm, unpretentious welcome at this quiet pub.
The food is traditional, most of it cooked on the premises from fresh ingredients.
Although the main beers are keg bitter and lager, they keep selection of really good bottled beers from the local brewery.
Deserves to be better known!
