 Having decided to try our new local and having passed the pub every day, we thought we'd try the advertised "amblers family restaurant" We rung the pub to check what time they served food and reserved a table.
We were early so sat down at a table only to be told that that was where the band would set up and our table was being laid specially over the other side. When we took our seats, the table was wet with beer; the cutlery dirty and someone didn't know their left from their right.
No effort was made to make us feel welcome or move the swearing teenage clients from around the table. As we changed our minds to go somewhere else the staff seemed really surprised!
Not the family restaurant it advertises outside!

The Royal Hotel was built around 1813 and retains much of its original character. There are 3 spacious and pristine en suite guest bedrooms.
The Royal Hotel is a family run public house in the village of Dungworth. Set on the edge of the Peak District high on the moors northwest of Sheffield but only a 20-minute drive from the centre of the city and Meadowhall shopping centre. Its location makes it the ideal place for people visiting the area but not wanting to stay in the hustle bustle of a city.
Real ale changed frequently is available along with Tetley's Cask, Stella, Carling and Strongbow. Also try a single Malt whisky or two!
Home cooked traditional foods are served. Why not try one of Dave's famous "Royal pies"?

Visited the Milestone on Mothers Day after being in for a drink a couple of weeks ago with friends. The atmosphere then was relaxed and chilled. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, so we thought it would be a good place to bring my mum and family for Mothers Day.
We went ahead and booked a table for 10. Our table was booked for 1PM, so we arrived half an hour early to have drinks. When we had all arrived we went and sat at our table. We were given menus to choose from. I had crab & prawn fishcakes (£9) for my main, which was beautiful, very flavoursome and well presented. My husband had the Sunday roast, which was beef with all the trimmings (£9). However, apart from the huge Yorkshire pudding on the plate the rest of the portions were quite small. The gravy was sweet which made the rest of the food taste sweet, however the beef was cooked to perfection. Whilst my husband was eating his meal he found what turned out to be an olive stone in his Yorkshire pudding! Luckily for him he was able to remove it from his mouth before he broke a tooth on it. We did ask the waitress why it was there but she just smiled before walking away slightly embarrassed.
Only 3 of us had desert, which comprised of fondant & chocolate pudding, which was to die for, 2 of us had the cheese selection, which in my opinion was average. The fruit bread that came with it was fab.
When we received the bill my sister said to make sure that we had only been charged for what we had had. She had checked out their website before coming and there was a comment on it about being charged for food that someone had not had. We were charged for 4 deserts not 3. We brought the mistake to their attention they went and checked on the computer, which took approx. 15 minutes to do so before they removed it from the bill.
Throughout the meal the table was not cleared of glasses that had been used, we ordered quite a number of drinks. They only cleared away the plates. Overall impression of the meal was average, I didn't feel the food was value for money. We would definitely go back to the pub for a drink but would not go back for a meal, especially for a special occasion.

Friendly staff, beautiful views, good portions of well-cooked food, real ale, great coffee...what more could you ask for? The perfect pub, parts of it are 12th Century (check out the main room's fireplace) and all of it is welcomingly old-fashioned, comfortable if a little shabby in places. Peacocks roam about outside, tables outside where you can take in the view of the dams and the hills. Best pub in Sheffield area? You bet.

A lovely, friendly pub, offering a traditional Sheffield welcome, situated approximately 3 miles from the city centre by St John's church at Ranmoor on the main road through to Fulwood.
The Ranmoor Inn offers a small, but interesting and delicious menu and a nice choice of hand-pulled beers. The bar staff along with Vanessa the licensee are all guaranteed to make you feel at home and very welcome.
This is by far one of my favourite pubs in my home city and I would recommend anyone to call in there for lunch, a pint of real ale whilst reading a selection of national and local papers put out in the pub every day.

A small friendly pub in the centre of Thorpe Hesley, "The Tiger" as its known locally is fast developing a reputation as an excellent music pub. Most Saturday nights you can catch a top local band there and the size of the venue makes for an intimate evening!
Also on the last Thursday in every month there is an open mike evening where musicians and singers of all genres come together and entertain the customers for free. Known locally as "The Tiger Jam" there are drums, guitars and PA set up ready so get along and have a go.
Coupled with good beers, pool, televised football and friendly hosts Wendy and Dennis this a cracking pub to visit.

This is a great little pub. Specialises in real ales and always has a really good selection on tap and in bottles. Also a good range of draught continental lagers and draught ciders. On weekends they have live bands - Blues and rock mainly. There is music other nights of the week too with 'acoustic' solo artists. They do a wide range of hot pub grub - the all day breakfast is highly recommended.

Friendly family pub with a great atmosphere. There is a quiz and play your cards right on Thursdays, including free buffet.
Deal or No Deal hosted by our very own 'Noeleene' every Friday at 8.30PM, when you could win up to a quarter of a thousand pounds!
Other attractions include free pool on Tuesday nights and the best Sunday lunches in town.
The Middlewood Tavern is a great place for a laugh, so make sure you join us soon.

I personally find the Old Red Lion a very friendly local pub. It's a pub where you can enjoy a quiet drink or enjoy a lively night out on the weekend. I found the bar staff very helpful, friendly and efficient. It's also quite a family orientated pub and the location set in the countryside is very beautiful.
I would recommend this pub to people of all ages you wont be disappointed.

A tremendous pub. A huge variety of beautifully kept real ales, an amazing selection of Belgian beers, first-rate food, non-smoking throughout, regular and very good live music, and friendly, helpful staff to top it all. Rapidly and rightly acquiring a great reputation amongst the people who know what makes a proper pub.
