Great pub, very friendly staff, great people, made many friends in this pub. Magic atmosphere - used to visit every other weekend. Drove from North East of Scotland for a night out in this pub will visit again soon. Hi to all the local people who use this pub.
We had a university re-union at this pub on Saturday 23rd May 2009. I booked in advance for 16 of us.
Roger, the pub landlord, and all his staff were excellent. The food was fresh, tasty and very reasonable. Service was excellent and quick. Very good variety of beers for the boys! Although they didn't have a large selection of wine, because of the size of the party, Roger provided us with other wines as requested. They couldn't have done enough!
Although unlikely to be in the area again, if I was, I'd certainly call in for a meal. It's a minute off the motorway and has a far better atmosphere than the sometimes grotty services! Well done to all staff for helping us to have an excellent weekend.
My husband and I were recommended this pub and decided to give it a try - which we did today.
We had the humongous Dan Pie (and believe you me it was) and thoroughly enjoyed the meal, it was excellent. The service was very good and staff very friendly. Next time if I have the pie I think I will take one of the grandchildren and share it.
Would definitely recommend the food here, very reasonable and plenty of it.
We were also the first Mr & Mrs to eat the pie and our certificate is No. 086 would be interested to see who gets the 100.
A real gem and accidental find. Whilst out searching for launch sties for our hot air balloon, we found this lovely pub out in the sticks. It has a lovely safe children's play area at the back with plenty of outdoor seating and car parking. We were made most welcome - (even wearing walking boots).
We had the basic menu and found it was very tasty and quickly served. As a result we are well pleased with the warm welcome, and plan to return again - even with the balloon, as there is plenty of space to launch - when the weather is being kind.
We also plan to visit to have a more formal meal, as the menu looks quite interesting - there is even crocodile available - but it is best to ring in advance for this unusual dish.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Anthony, we will return, especially when it's a flyable evening.
We visited the Red Lion for a family occasion on Saturday 4th April. After being shown to our first table we noted the seat was wet and the roof leaking, causing the problem. We asked to be moved - which caused the first problem for the waiting staff. Not used to people asking to be moved.
Placing our food order was another ordeal - the waitress asked us several times to confirm our order.
The food was severely sub-standard, all meals were not cooked as requested, extremely poor service and no one interested in our complaints. The total bill was well in excess of £100 and we shall not frequent this establishment again. Would recommend you steer clear at all costs!
Very busy on arrival but we found a table with ease. Lots of staff around but not much seams to be being done, only 2 bar staff serving so I spent the first 15 minutes waiting at the bar.
Food ordered with ease, hot shared platter for starters and 9oz ribeye for main (that's mine) by the way I am writing this at the time we are in the Admiral Rodney. Starters are here and wow - how gutted are we, nowhere near £10.95 worth, and over cooked. Not happy with that but hey - everyone can make a mistake. We'll wait for mains and pass judgment after that.
Not bad, small portions and the children's steak was too over-cooked, but then again my daughter will eat a rare steak with me and most kids are not like that.
Overall OK, could have had better service and the toilets are very smelly.
