Shocking service. Bar maids that don't know price of a glass of wine, didn't know how to open a new bottle of wine - she gave to a customer to open - TRUE. Also didn't have a large glass for wine - wanted serve two small glasses. Never again - embarrassing.
If it's just a drink you want, give this pub a miss. I was in Sheffield from Monday April 4th to the 7th and I did seven pubs in the Good Beer Guide, mostly at lunch time and some again in the evening.
No problem in getting served except in here (about 1:25PM). Nobody behind the bar, some young woman rushing around with food orders, saying to me "I'll be with you in a minute." I didn't wait, went to the Old House instead.
It was busy but I was served straight away. If the owners or whoever can't manage things better they don't deserve to be in the Good Beer Guide. The bar should all ways be attended to. Better buck themselves up for the members weekend!
Went for lunch with friends and thought it was absolutely appalling. Kept hearing some Scottish guy shouting abuse at the chefs, which was very upsetting. And to top it all the food was terrible. Will never go back.
This is a really good wine bar for drinks after work or a pre-club bar. Always had a good time until recently when my friend was refused entry with no explanation as to why.
When we asked to speak to the manager she said it was the doorman's decision and was final. We asked him why she couldn't go in and he said it was because his friend asked him to refuse her entry due to a small fallout.
The staff were unprofessional and biased. They lost out on custom and we were forced to go and have a really good night elsewhere.
Just come back from the Sportsman Inn. Took my daughter for her 17th birthday lunch. It cost me £12.00 for 2 fish and chips with peas and two large glasses of Coke. The meal was lovely, worth every penny. Looking forward to going again.
Lovely pub - nice beer, awful chips. Complained and was told it was the fault of the oil, and people loved them like that, also told I was the first to complain. The chips were cooked and reheated, the breadcake was of poor quality and a Big Mac would have beaten the overpriced Yorkshire burger by a mile. Won't eat there again.
Been to The York at Broomhill a number of times with my Dad for lunch or with my mate Mat for the start of our Broomhill / Ranmoor / Nether Green pub crawl.
We all like the decor and staff are very welcoming. Dad and I both think the food is very good and fairly priced. We have now been there 3 or 4 times in the past 3 or 4 months, finding the staff and food consistently spot on.
I usually drink Guinness and it is not available, but a porter is sold and makes a pleasant change not like some I have tried in the past.
