Thoroughly disappointed and only half ate my meal of hunter's chicken in respect that the chicken was hard and chewy to eat, plus the cheese and bacon topping was cremated. Chips weren't much better.
I know I should have complained about the food but was mindful of the 35-minute wait it took in getting the meal, and the thought of the family having to wait around until I'd got and eaten a replacement.
Went to the York on Saturday the 14th July. The decor is great, superb selection of real ales. The bar staff were totally miserable, not one of them could raise a smile or a welcoming hello. Spoilt what should have been a good night out.
I wandered into the Green Room by chance. I saw they were serving breakfast and needed something to cure the damage done by the night before. It was the best full English breakfast I have had in ages! The portions are huge for the £3.50 price. The music was eclectic and the bar staff was friendly. Be sure to bring cash, as they do not accept cards. I will be going back!
Went to the Angel pub on Sunday 8th July and was absolutely disgusted by the service my wife and I received. We waited 40 minutes for our Sunday lunch, then the chef came with our food and said we were at fault. Very poor indeed. Will not go ever again. Really amateur service.
Be careful what you order from the menu is the best advice here. I was bitterly disappointed with my visit to Ye Olde Mustard Pot. When I chose pork chop and mash from the menu and that is exactly what I got for £10 - one solitary chop, not of great proportions, and mash, not a pea or carrot or anything else in sight.
I asked when it was presented to me if the dish came with veg. and was informed it did not. I asked if veg. could be bought as a side and was promised some. After 15 minutes I finished eating, without the veg. appearing. What a boring plate of expensive chop and mash.
When paying at the till I was asked if everything was alright with my meal, to which I replied if the dish was served without veg. this should be offered or at least pointed out when ordering. I said the meal was not of value and was spoiled because of the lack of interest on the plate. The bartender replied he was sorry about it but did nothing to rectify the matter. Happy to let customers leave displeased and knowing they wouldn't be back.
Nice surroundings but disappointing fayre. Not somewhere to return to.
In need of a massive refurb and a new landlord. Me and my family spent a lot of money and time in this pub in the past years, and I have to agree with Mr Williams - the landlord became very obnoxious and rude to the people who were paying his wages.
We have been to a funeral at the Hogshead and would just like to thank the landlord, landlady and all the bar staff for a brilliant day. The buffet was excellent and everyone who attended said what a good time they had all had. Thanks again.
As usual cheap beer is the biggest draw for a Wetherspoon pub, now I know why.
I had not been here before, as I was on a day visit to the city. I made the mistake of ordering a meal - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and fresh vegetables. After about a 15-minute wait, I was told there was no roast beef, so accepted roast pork. After another 15 minute wait, I was served with what can only be described as a, lukewarm, £1 ready frozen meal, and the "fresh vegetables" turned out to be a large pile of frozen peas.
Despite this, I otherwise had a great day in Sheffield, but never again will I eat in a Wetherspoon pub.
