The Earl on Queens Road has been granted a reprieve after South Yorkshire's chief fire officer applied to Sheffield Council for a review of the licence "with a view to its permanent revocation". The pub had been threatened with closure after fire safety concerns were not addressed for 18 months.

However, owners Enterprise Inns completed work to rectify the problems and the pub has been allowed to remain open.

The Earl of Arundel & Surrey pub in Highfield has changed its name simply to Earl and now serves until 2AM every day.
