Red Lion Pub Reviews
Steve Taylor - 09/12/2012
Visited this pub at least once a month over the past six months. The pub is almost spot on but always disappoints on some point of service. We ate the mains and were then just left with the plates and after half an hour weren't asked if we wanted a sweet or a coffee. We mentioned this when paying and were told we should have gained the staff's attention. At the time three tables were occupied.
On another visit we ordered a dry white wine and were given a medium sweet. We complained and were told it was dry, as they only served one dry wine. We weren't offered a look at the bottle and were offered a splash of soda water to take away the sweetness.
The staff are always friendly, especially the weekday staff. We don't think we will use this pub again but I don't think the young staff will be bothered.

Reading the other reviews made us sceptical but we resolved to follow the, possibly biased, idea from Beth Griffiths, which was, try it and make our own minds up.
So glad we did, we were welcomed at the door and even though we had not booked, we were found a table and treated with the utmost courtesy and consideration. The food was beautifully cooked and the service was impeccable. We were so pleased, we booked a future family party.

The service was very, very poor. The staff were very rude and arrogant and did not look very presentable. The customer service skills are below standard, even for this place.
The food was over priced and not very nice and I would never recommend this place to any of my friends.
If I was anyone I would never step foot in this place again.
One of the worst places I have ever been to in my life.

Firstly I must start by saying I have never met such an unruly and obnoxious landlord in my entire life. He looked extremely scruffy, walking around in shorts and constantly swearing with what I could only imagine were his local and usual customers.
The landlady was very rude and I had to send the food back. First of all the starter was cold then the main was not what I ordered and very much over priced.
I wouldn't dare step foot through the Red Lion's doors as long as I shall live.

Today we had lunch here. Excellent food, generous portions and excellent value meal deal. 2 courses for £6.99 plus a drink. Service was good too. Very pleasant staff.
Will definitely visit again soon.

Great meal. Friendly staff. Recommend the fillet steak any day.

Just been for Sunday lunch. Terrible, would not go again. Wish I had gone to McDonald's now.
My husband had roast beef that he could not eat, and the rest of the food was bland. The vegetables were not cooked.
Told the landlord, who was not interested. Whatever happened to good customer service? Will never go to the Red Lion again.

Just come home after having a Sunday lunch at the Red Lion. The only thing I can say is the chef must have been having a really bad day. It was the worst meal I have been served with in a very long time. Trying to think of something good to say but nothing comes to mind.
Can't really believe I just paid for that part eaten pile of rubbish I've just been served for Sunday lunch. Would seem it is a waste of time complaining, as no one took any notice.
Good job it was me eating there and not Gordon Ramsay, I'm sure it would have been given a few expletives from him. Just off to get something nice to eat out of the fridge.

After a friend recommended this pub to us after dining there we decided to give it a try also, and we were not disappointed.
We were all very impressed with the food, which was served quickly, despite the pub being quite busy.
A very warm, traditional pub with excellent home cooked food. The staff and management were very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable when we had queries.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that an offer was available at the time to receive a free main course as it was my birthday that day, which was an added bonus.
I'd definitely recommend this pub to anyone and we shall be returning in the near future.

Great pub, crackin' staff. The food is beautifully homemade, what more could you ask for?
As the daughter of the manager I think that's all just out of order. If we don't come in time to your table or take your order we are very sorry, but most of the time it's just the people being picky and taking their time when there are other people to be served. When there is a big party that's the worst out of all.
The food is done cooked right and if not [it's] because you didn't ask for that way for it to be cooked. In my right I think that's all wrong. Let people come to the pub and see what they think, not what other people think of my pub.

We visited the Red Lion for a family occasion on Saturday 4th April. After being shown to our first table we noted the seat was wet and the roof leaking, causing the problem. We asked to be moved - which caused the first problem for the waiting staff. Not used to people asking to be moved.
Placing our food order was another ordeal - the waitress asked us several times to confirm our order.
The food was severely sub-standard, all meals were not cooked as requested, extremely poor service and no one interested in our complaints. The total bill was well in excess of £100 and we shall not frequent this establishment again. Would recommend you steer clear at all costs!

I had heard that the Red Lion did good food, so I booked a table so me and my good lady could enjoy a meal.
We arrived at our booked time of 20:15 to find that we were not expected, although I phoned and booked a table.
The waiter pointed to a table set for four persons and promptly removed 2 place settings, for us to use.
About 5 minutes later we were approached by a waitress, who politely enquired if we were ready to order. We weren't ready, so she carried on serving other people. About 4 minutes later we gave our order to a waiter, who we believed had submitted our order to the kitchen.
We then waited. In the meantime 2 other sets of couples, who came in after us, were served with food.
After 30 minutes and 4 drinks later, we enquired if we had been forgotten and found that the "the kitchen hadn't received our order". The waiter apologised and offered us a complimentary drink for our trouble. The menu did look promising, but it was spoilt by the fact that communication between the bar and the kitchen didn't work, a distance of 10 feet!
It was a total waste of our time, effort and expense. Furthermore there was no form of apology from the management or landlord.
In short it spoilt the whole night!

We went for my birthday recently and were disappointed with all our meals. Four of us went and our friends ordered fish, which was not to their liking, as the batter was too hard. We also had the smallest portion of vegetables to share between all of us. Whilst sitting there I was waiting for another tray to come that never arrived - all in all a very disappointing evening. I was slightly shocked, as I have been there before on several occasions and the meals are normally very good.

Excellent in every way: food, staff, cleanliness. Great place to go for a meal.

Lovely pub...friendly staff.
Went for a meal and it was totally ruined by barbeque sauce being poured over the pork spare ribs! No mention of the sauce on the menu board! The manager (well he wore the suit) cleared the table and didn't bother to ask if we had enjoyed our meal! I had to make a point of complaining about the BBQ sauce. He assumed we were complaining about the sauce-encrusted pile of bones on our plates! Told us that they had received loads of complaints about the pork ribs and that they were expecting a new batch! As he walked away from us he told us that it wasn't their fault! Certainly wasn't ours either!
We had paid £10.95 per head, and seeing as the revolting hot BBQ sauce had dribbled all over my meal, most of it went back! Definitely not impressed with (A) the false description of the "pork spare ribs" and (B) the attitude of the "manager" as regards customer service and satisfaction. I wasn't looking for a refund but the apology only followed on after the explanation that it wasn't their fault!
Don't think we will be eating there again.
