4 Reviews of Cow & Calf Inn:
Geoff
Going down hill fast, lost all its welcome, staff not interested. Chairs put on tables at 11:30pm, main door locked. Had to exit via a fire door. Outside lights turned off, so had to negotiate the courtyard to the car park in pitch dark.
Lots of regulars already found new "local". We'll be joining them!

Lovely old pub. Very, very nice food. Lovely open fires. Bar staff very friendly!

What a load of drunken yobs. I will stick to the Wordsworth Tavern.
Julie
Phoned up this place to see if they served food. Was answered by a rough sounding voice who told me they did and that we didn't need to book.
We turned up for my mum's birthday, she was 77. We were greeted (or not) by a few people at the bar and were just stared at! It was like walking in the Slaughtered Lamb pub in the film American Werewolf in London. It was dingy and scruffy and far from a warm welcome. Needless to say we walked out and will not be returning.
In the top Red Lion further into Grenoside it was different again. Lovely staff, fabulous meal
If you're up Grenoside give the Cow & Calf a wide berth.
