1 Review of University Arms:

  • Andy Hoole

Whatever you do, don't visit the University Arms if you want a drink after 10.35PM on a Saturday night!

Visited here 21/09/2018. Arrived at 8pm and joined some friends. Spent £55-£60 between us and went to the bar to buy more drinks, only to be informed that they were not serving anymore, and this was at 10.32PM.

Following protest from one of our party, who pointed out that on the front doors it advertised open until at least 11pm, the bar staff relented and served us. They then proceeded to turn away 8-10 further customers saying they were closed and yet when a "familiar" face turned up at 10.55pm they served him... which smacks of favouritism or discrimination.

The bar staff were unable/incapable of giving a satisfactory explanation as to why they had "closed the bars", yet served at least 1 more person later.

Whatever you do give this pub a big miss. Beer great, bar staff totally incompetent and idiots!

This pub just is also closed all day on Sunday. Unbelievable in 2018... don't go here!

News for University Arms:

  • The Sheffield branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has applied to Sheffield City Council for Asset of Community Value (ACV) status to be given to the University Arms pub. If granted, this would mean that the pub cannot be converted or demolished without planning permission, and local residents have six months to make an offer if the pub is put up for sale. A previous application in 2015 was rejected.

Sheffield University, which owns the University Arms, has a 10-year campus masterplan that contains a proposal to demolish the pub, and has opposed the application.
