Static bar on West Street in Sheffield city centre has been granted permission to extend its opening hours despite opposition from neighbouring residents and council officials.

However, the bar must obtain planning permission for the later opening hours before they can come into effect. Static had applied for permission to open until 4AM every day, but Sheffield City Council's licensing board limited the extension until 3:30AM Thursday - Saturday and until 2:30AM Sunday - Wednesday, provided that they improve their sound insulation.

Static bar & club, on West Street in Sheffield city centre, has applied for an extended licence that would allow it to open until 4AM every night. In their application the management indicated that they wanted to stay open longer at weekends and also have the option to hold more events for students during the week. They said that current opening hours prevent them from engaging external promoters to hold events in the venue.

However, officials at Sheffield City Council are opposing the application, saying that the venue is too noisy and must improve sound insulation before it would support any extension of the opening hours.
