The Quarter bar in Sheffield city centre has been forced to cut back its opening hours after Sheffield City Council's licensing board deemed them inappropriate because its location is now considered to be residential.
The bar, on North Church Street, only had planning permission to operate as a bar and restaurant but had been opening until 2AM Sunday to Thursday and 4AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
It has also been stopped from holding public entertainment events, after staging a naked female jelly wrestling and lap dancing night at a time when children were allowed in. However, the management stressed that bouncers were on the door and no youngsters entered the premises.
The Quarter bar was refused planning permission to operate as a bar and nightclub and will now be allowed to serve alcohol 11:30AM to 11PM Sunday to Thursday and 11:30AM to 12AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sheffield Council's planning board has ordered the Quarter, located on North Church Street in Sheffield city centre, to stop operating as a bar and nightclub. The venue, formerly known as Sola Bar, had staged lap dancing and naked female jelly wrestling during hours when children were allowed in under the terms of its licence. Quarter only has planning permission to operate as a restaurant and if it stages further events when people are charged to enter and no food is on sale, it faces enforcement action.
New managers Steve Goluf and Robert Allen said they are now running the Quarter as a bar and restaurant, with main meals served until 8PM and lighter food available until closing time.
