The Empire Bar in Charter Square, city centre, has had its licence reviewed after South Yorkshire Police raised concerns about a "significant increase in serious incidents" in September and early October.

The Empire Bar has been allowed to keep its licence after it agreed to implement a Challenge 25 policy, employ extra door staff and require drinkers to pass through a metal detector upon entering The bar may also admit customers until 2:30AM and open until 4:30AM at weekends.
