Gower Arms Pub News
01/6/2007
The Gower Arms pub in Burngreave has had its license revoked by Sheffield City Council after South Yorkshire Police produced evidence of violent incidents, drug dealing and armed patrons.
According to the police, 10% of all crime in Burngreave recorded between September 2006 and April 2007 had been committed within 250 metres of the pub.
Councillors heard that licensee Victor Soloman had broken every single one of the strict licensing conditions were imposed on the pub in January 2007, including an order to upgrade the CCTV system, ban children, enforce a stringent search policy, employ weekend security staff, and stop people congregating outside.
Mr Soloman said he would be appealing the licensing decision, but Acting Inspector Simon Leake, from the Burngreave and Pitsmoor safer neighbourhood policing team, said that Mr Soloman had turned a blind eye to things going on inside his pub and was not fully cooperating with the police.
